Fall semester dates: August 18th - December 11th

Classes begin: August 18th

Drop/Add: August 18-21

Program Orientation (all students invited): August 25th @ 7:00pm or August 27th @ 7:00pm

Labor Day - no classes: September 1st

Spring Internship Orientation: September 10th

CPCE (Comps): October 25th

Early registration for spring & summer begins: October 27th

Last day of classes: December 5th

**  Three upcoming professional development opportunities:

1) Georgia Association of Specialists in Group Work workshop on May 17th. It will run from 8:30 til 5 at the Warner Robins Campus of Fort Valley State University.  You may contact Dr. Jeri Crowell at jeri.crowell@gmail.com

 

2)  The Play Therapy Training Institute at Georgia State University presents "Sandtray Therapy: Making Therapeutic Connections".   Friday, June 6, 2008, 9 AM - 4 PM at The Georgia State University Student Center

Court Salon.

> Brief Description of the Training:

When to choose it. When to use it. How to set it up. This presentation will provide information, insight, and experience in using sandtray therapy in a variety of settings and with various types of clients. The day will begin with how to set-up sandtray therapy: selection of miniatures and use of various sandtrays. Next, guidelines to conduct sessions and how to document sessions. Want to know the latest research? A summary of the last decade of sandtray therapy research is included. Working with families and groups? Yes, this too will be reviewed. Throughout the day experiential activities will provide personal insight into professional uses. These areas and more will be covered in this daylong workshop. Come to learn, come to experience, come to enjoy.

3) Safe Space @ Georgia Southern!

The Counseling and Career Development Center is proud to announce that Safe Space is here at Georgia Southern University! Safe Space is a campus-wide initiative offering a visible message of inclusion, acceptance, and support to lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people in the university community.  The program offers participants a 3 hour orientation to raise awareness and knowledge of LGBT issues and to suggest ways to serve as an ally to LGBT individuals.  Following the orientation, participants receive a Safe Space decal to display in their work or living space. By displaying the Safe Space decal, ally administrators, faculty, staff, and students identify themselves as safe, educated, and aware people and pledge to:

1. Strive toward continued development, learning, awareness, and action, and to search for further ways of understanding LGBT individuals.

2. Promote an environment where members of the LGBT community do not have to censor their identities.

3. Promote an atmosphere where members of the LGBT community can participate fully, equally, and openly in campus life without fear of discrimination and/or harassment.

4. Promote a safe and affirming place for LGBT people by offering an atmosphere and personal relationship of respect, fairness, and trust.

5. Serve as a resource of information for students, faculty, and staff having questions about LGBT issues, and be willing to refer students to support and resources on campus and in the community.

6. Maintain confidentiality.

** Orientation for Fall Internship will take place on March 12th from 7-8pm in COE room 1120.
Those planning to enroll in Internship I and/or Internship II Fall 2008 should plan to attend. Detailed nformation concerning making application, site placement, and internship requirements will be discussed. ** ..…2008  ..…2008 NYAR CONFERENCE SPECIAL EVENT ……

 

TUESDAY, MARCH 4th DOCUMENTARY FILM SCREENING

A special screening of Janks Morton’s controversial film, “What Black Men Think,” on Tuesday, March 4th at 6:30 p.m. will be open to all NYAR conference attendees and the public as space permits. “What Black Men Think” has been nominated for awards by International Black Film and Media, by the Harlem International Film Festival, and by the Afrikan History Film Festival. The movie will be shown in the ballroom of the Hyatt Regency on Bay Street, and Morton, who wrote, produced, and directed the movie, will be on hand to discuss the film following its presentation.

November 5, 2007 - Important!!!

 

Those intending to enroll in Internship I and/or II for the Spring 08 semester, you must contact your advisor and/or submit your application by Monday, November 12, 2007. This is the last possible date to apply; otherwise, you will not be able to move forward until Fall 08

 

 

 

 

Wednesday, January 30th 7:30 pm kicks off our first meeting of the semester in COE Room 2148.  Come find out how you can be a part of curriculum changes in the community program, upcoming conferences, and other fun events we have planned!  Membership and participation in the various training opportunities offered by LPCA make excellent resume builders!
